Treatment Solutions

Our Xstrahl therapy range comprises 4 systems that span low energy units for superficial treatments of clinical conditions through to higher energy units for orthovoltage treatments.

Xstrahl 100	Low energy option, superficial and Grenz Ray therapy system.
Xstrahl 150	Superficial therapy system, higher energy range and larger depth dose than the Xstrahl 100.
Xstrahl 200	Superficial and orthovoltage system, treats the same superficial conditions as the Xstrahl 100 and 200 and provides palliative treatments.
Xstrahl 300	The most powerful system in the Xstrahl range, this system is ideally suited for orthovoltage techniques.

Basal Cell Carcinoma

Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer. The tumours typically occur in exposed areas; mostly the face and head. The cancers rarely metastasize and therefore fatalities are exceptionally uncommon. Multiple primary tumours often occur and may be large in size, causing discomfort and disfigurement.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

The incidence of Squamous Cell Carcinomas is lower than that of Basal Cell Carcinomas, but it is the more aggressive variety, with a higher mortality rate. Like Basal Cell Carcinomas, the cause is often associated with sun exposure, although in the case of Squamous Cell Carcinomas, cancer is more likely to metastasize.

Keloid

Keloid scarring often forms at the site of skin injuries, and typically is shiny and dark pink or brown in appearance. Radiotherapy is an effective form of treatment; particularly if executed soon after formation of the scar.

Dermatological Conditions

Benign skin conditions that include inflammatory disorders, degenerative disorders and hypertrophic disorders.

Mycosis Fungoides

Mycosis Fungoides is a class of cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma affecting the skin. Small, localised, superficial lesions can be successfully treated with low energy X-ray therapy to provide effective palliation of symptoms.

Palliative Care

Xstrahl systems can be used as a source of palliative care, to improve the quality of life of patients. X-ray therapy is used to treat painful boney metastases.

Benign Conditions

Radiotherapy is sometimes used to treat benign conditions. Superficial X-ray therapy can provide symptomatic control in such benign conditions as Dupytrens Contracture and for many benign tumours of skin and other soft tissues.

The Xstrahl team are committed to providing detailed training on all aspects of our Xstrahl Medical systems.

Clinical Training

Overview of all system components (generator, cooler, treatment machines, treatment console)
Demonstration of the operation of the machine including all tube stand and tube head operations
Instruction on the integrated filters and correct selection of the required Half Value Layer
Instruction on the treatment applicators, including the correct fitting and removal from the treatment head, correct storage and cleaning protocols
Comprehensive training on the clinical use of the Xstrahl system including all procedures for:
- Power ON and daily quality assurance
- Clinical mode, treatment delivery and patient management
- Safety interlocks and emergency stop
- Power down
Overview of all safety features

Physics/Service Module

Comprehensive overview of Physics functionality including:
- System configuration including filters and applicators
- Calibration procedures
- System log data
- Engineering function

Patient Management System

Clinical training includes:
- Power ON and daily quality assurance
- Creating patient data
- Delivering clinical exposures
- Recalling patients and past treatments
- System housekeeping
- Power down

Record and Verify System:

Power ON
Creating users and password authority
Creating patient data and prescribed treatment courses
Verification of patient and treatment field data
Treatment delivery and treatment interruptions

Once users have been shown the correct operation of the equipment, they are supported through several clinical based scenarios which allows them to use the equipment as required in a clinical situation whilst still in the training environment with the support of the Applications Specialist.
